DEKALB, Illinois (January 26, 2001) -- Northern Illinois (6-5-1, 1-2-1) took eight of ten matches on their way to a 25-9 victory over the Bobcats (8-5, 1-2). Dan Bednar (Brecksville) and Ryan Smith (Dayton) picked up the only wins for Ohio.
After Bednar (18-4, 2-1) earned a technical fall over NIU's Greg Reardon, the Huskies reeled off six consecutive decisions to give them a 19-5 lead. Smith (14-4, 1-0) would major Bryce Hasseman, 11-2, to cut the deficit to 10 points, but Northern's Bill Lowney picked up a decision over Luke Moore, 3-1, to seal the victory for the Huskies.
This was Joel Greenlee's first conference loss to a school, other than Central Michigan, in his four years as Bobcat head coach (13-4-1). The Bobcats will continue their stretch of duals on the road when they travel to Slippery Rock next Saturday to face the Rock, Millersville and Bloomsburg.
