Ohio Women's Swimming Dominates Miami and Bowling Green

ATHENS, Ohio (January 27, 2001) -- The Ohio women's swimming and diving team honored its seniors on Saturday afternoon with a sweep of Miami and Bowling Green on "Senior Day". With the victories, the class of 2001 remained undefeated for their careers in the friendly confines of the Ohio Aquatic Center.
The Bobcats (11-1) defeated the RedHawks 158-85, while earning an impressive 192-50 victory over the Falcons. Ohio captured first place in all 11 swimming events, including both the 400 medley (3:54.82) and 400 freestyle (3:35.43) relays.
Junior, Kim van Selm, showed why she is the reigning Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Year. The South Africa native finished first in 200 (1:52.55), 500 (5:01.12) and 1000 (10:15.90) freestyles. The 1000 freestyle time was a new conference record for this season. van Selm already holds the MAC 200 and 500 freestyle records for 2001.
Senior co-captain, Emily Bresser (Crestview Hills, Ky.), ended her reign in the Aquatic Center with a pair of victories in the 200 backstroke (2:04.23) and the 200 breaststroke (2:23.05). Sophomore, Trisha Kessler (Canton), captured first in the 400 I.M. (4:27.85) and the 100 freestyle (52.85).
Other Ohio winners include Stephanie Gotschall in the 50 freestyle (24.15) and Courtney Gould in the 200 butterfly (2:07.48).
The Bobcats are back in the pool on Feb. 3 when they travel to Toledo to face the Rockets and Ball State.
