ATHENS, Ohio (January 25, 2001)-- Ohio head football coach, Brian Knorr, recently announced the addition of Pete Germano as recruiting coordinator for the Bobcats. Germano, a native of Cleveland, joins the Bobcat program after spending the last two seasons as head coach for Case Western Reserve University.
"Pete has a great personality and the high-level of energy necessary to be a great recruiting coordinator," explained Knorr. "He has strong ties within Ohio that will help us continue to build upon our existing recruiting base. Ohio will continue to be our number-one objective and Pete's northeast Ohio connections will certainly assist with those efforts."
In two seasons at Case Western Reserve, Germano began the rebuilding process for the Spartan program. The squad posted a 2-8 record in 1999 before finishing 3-7 overall last season.
Prior to taking over the Spartans, Germano spent nine years at Wabash College. He held various titles there including defensive coordinator, strength coach, linebacker coach, recruiting coordinator and assistant head coach. His defensive units led the conference six times, while being nationally ranked three times. Wabash won the conference title four times during the 1990's (1991, 92, 94, 98).
Before Wabash, Germano spent six seasons coaching Fairmont State College (W.Va.), helping the team earn a number-10 ranking in NAIA Division I.
Germano received a bachelor's degree in physical education from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1982. While at Ohio Wesleyan, he earned four letters in football and played baseball for two seasons. He went on to receive his master's degree in physical education and athletic administration from Bowling Green State University in 1983.
In 1984, he was selected as the head athletic trainer for the Cincinnati Reds' Double-A farm team, the Vermont Reds.
Germano, 40, was a three-sport standout in football, basketball and baseball at Benedictine High School in Cleveland. He and his wife Jackie have three children: Nicole (10), Joey (8) and Michael (4).
