ATHENS, Ohio (January 22, 2001) -- Ohio head football coach, Brian Knorr, announced that Mike Summers, an 18-year veteran of Division I college coaching, has been named offensive line coach for the Bobcats.

"Mike Summers has a outstanding background in option football," explained Knorr. "His experiences coordinating the offenses at Oregon State and Northern Illinois have been a tremendous asset for Coach Gregory and the offensive staff. He also brings some great recruiting ideas from his experience as the recruiting coordinator at Oklahoma State."

Summers spent last season as tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator at Oklahoma State. He served as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at the University of the South from 1997-99, leading an offense that ranked fifth in the nation in rushing and second in the conference in total offense during his tenure.

From 1990-96, he served as offensive coordinator at Oregon State, where the Beavers registered four straight years as the top rushing offense in the PAC-10. He was named Top Offensive Backfield Coach in the league in both 1993 and 1994.

Summers is no stranger to Mid-American Conference football. He spent six seasons at Northern Illinois, coordinating an offense that established 51chool records and seven NCAA standards from 1985-89. Summers served as an assistant coach at Texas A&M under Jackie Sherrill from 1982-85 and started his career as running backs coach and later quarterbacks coach at Kentucky.

Summers earned a bachelor's degree from Georgetown College in 1978 and added a postgraduate degree from Kentucky two years later. He and his wife Kathy have a 17 year-old daughter, Amy.
