ATHENS, Ohio (January 12, 2001) -- Ohio University will officially be closed Monday, Jan. 15 in observance of the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. All five sites -- UOMC-Parks Hall in Athens, UOMC-O'Bleness in Athens, UOMC-Coolville, UOMC-Nelsonville Square, and UOMC-Doctors Hospital in Nelsonville -- will be closed. If you would like information about the University Osteopathic Medical Center or wish to make an appointment, please call 740-593-1700.

The university will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 16, operating under normally scheduled hours and with classes in session. Students, please note: TRIPS and Web registration will not be available Jan. 15.

Those of you who will spend the long weekend in the Athens area may wish to take a look at the Fun Stuff page for information about area attractions and events.

Also, Jan. 15 begins an entire week of activities at Ohio University dedicated to the memory of Martin Luther King. A brunch and vigil kick off the week Monday at 10:30 a.m. Other highlights include a performance by the Urban Bush Women dance troupe; a keynote address by Michael Eric Dyson, who authored "I May Not Get There With You: The True Martin Luther King Jr."; and a lecture by former professional boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, the subject of the 1999 motion picture "The Hurricane."

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday.
