Ohio University Provost Named as Finalist for Iowa State Presidency
UPDATE (January 23, 2001): Gregory L. Geoffroy from the University of Maryland, College Park, was announced as Iowa State's new president on Jan. 22.
ATHENS, Ohio (January 10, 2001) -- Provost Sharon Stephens Brehm is one of five finalists for the presidency of Iowa University, Ohio University President Robert Glidden confirmed today.
Glidden released the following statement:
"Provost Brehm has strong academic values and indefatigable energy, and she is prepared to be an outstanding university president. I am pleased that she has the opportunity to interview at Iowa State University but of course we would be very disappointed to lose her services here."
Brehm has served as Ohio University's Provost since 1996. Before that, she was Dean of the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, State University of New York at Binghamton (1990-1996), and Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Kansas (1987-1990) where she was a member of the faculty for fifteen years. The author of numerous articles as well as seven books, Provost Brehm has been a visiting professor in Germany and Italy, and was a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar in Paris in 1981-82. She is co-chair of the Steering Committee for The Ohio Plan that seeks to strengthen the contribution that university research makes to economic development, and chair-elect of the governing board of OhioLINK.
