ATHENS, Ohio (November 29, 2000) -- Ohio men's basketball coach Larry Hunter announced that Serge Babo has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to join the Bobcats in 2001-02.
The 6-9, 250 center is a native of Cameroon who came to the United States in July 1999. He is a senior at Arlington High School in Indianapolis, Ind., where he plays basketball for Coach Larry Nicks. Babo was not able to play for his high school varsity team during his junior year due to state regulations for transfers. This past summer, he did play for the Spiece Northwest Summer Basketball Program.
"Babo will provide us with a bona fide athletic presence at the basket," explained Hunter. "He has exceptional hands, good timing and great touch around the basket. He is just learning the game and has loads of potential. Best of all he is just a great kid with a neat personality and a desire to be successful."
