ATHENS, Ohio (November 29, 2000) -- Ohio University alumnus Dan Evans has been named dean of Ohio University's Southern Campus in Ironton, Ohio, effective July 1.
Evans has served as dean of Wright State University's Lake Campus in Celina, Ohio, since 1994. He replaces Bill Dingus, who retired in September after serving 24 years as dean. Associate Dean for Admissions and Registration Eric Cunningham is serving as interim dean until July.
"I am looking forward to returning to my alma mater," Evans said. "I began my college career as a student at Southern Campus in 1968, so it's sort of a homecoming for me to return as dean. It will be very rewarding to provide educational opportunities that will open doors to careers that people in this area haven't imagined yet."
From 1981 to 1994, Evans held several administrative positions at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio, last serving as assistant vice president of academic affairs his final four years. He also served as an instructor at Ohio University's Southern Campus from 1986 to 1994.
"I am pleased that Dan Evans has accepted the position of dean at the Southern Campus," said Charles Bird, Ohio University vice president for regional higher education. "He will provide experienced, energetic leadership and is a strong addition to regional higher education."
Evans earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1973 and a doctoral degree in higher education administration in 1990, both from Ohio University. He also received a master's degree in counseling from Morehead State University in 1978.
The Southern Campus is the largest of Ohio University's five regional campuses with more than 2,500 students.
In honor of Dingus' service, the Southern Campus is building a $6 million technology center in his name.
