Kris Whitfield Named MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

Ball State senior setter Emily Sallee is this weeks MAC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Cardinals to the title at its own Holiday Inn Express/Nike Challenge. Sallee averaged 15.93 assists per game for BSU, in addition to averaging 0.60 kills, 0.40 aces and 0.53 blocks per game en route to garnering MVP honors. Moreover, Sallee hit .321 and averaged 3.27 digs per game. Sallee posted two matches with 75-plus assists and had three matches with 10 or more digs. The Cardinals, who went 4-0 last week, posted wins over Butler, Texas-El Paso, Southeast Missouri State and Florida State in the title contest.

(Oakland University) Bowling Greens Caty Rommeck is this weeks MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, marking the second consecutive week that a Falcon player has been honored. Rommeck, who shares the honor with Ohios Kris Whitfield, averaged 2.00 blocks and 2.82 digs per game and helped the Falcons to a title at the Central Florida Fall Invitational. Rommeck had back-to-back matches in which she registered six solo blocks (vs. Central Florida and Florida International) and had double digits in digs in two of the three matches BGSU played. In addition, the junior averaged 4.36 kills per game and hit .402, including a .609 mark against Western Carolina (16-2-23). Kris Whitfield, Ohio (Sr., OH) Alameda, Saskatchewan (Oxbow Prairie Hts.) Ohio's Kris Whitfield has also been tabbed as the MAC's Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Whitfield, who helped guide the Bobcats to the Valpo Popcorn Classic title, averaged 3.18 digs, 0.71 blocks and 0.82 aces per contest (14 aces). The senior, who also averaged 2.94 kills and 0.53 assists per contest, had 15 and 22 digs in wins over Kent State and Dartmouth, respectively. In addition to the 22 digs against Dartmouth, Whitfield had 16 kills and five aces.
