ATHENS, Ohio (November 15, 2000) -- A dedication ceremony for Ohio University's Emeriti Park, a scenic four-acre site along South Green Drive on the Athens campus, will be conducted at the park at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20. The ceremony will include remarks by Ohio University President Robert Glidden, other university officials and an emeritus faculty member prior to a ribbon-cutting event at the main entranceway.
Emeriti Park honors Ohio University's distinguished former faculty and staff members and recognizes the impact they have had on the university. It includes a pond, flowerbeds, benches, trees, fountains and a waterfall. A wrought iron and brick entranceway opens to a brick walkway and an overlook of the park. The entranceway is named for Vice President for Finance and Treasurer Emeritus William Kennard, who retired in 1997 after 31 years with the university.
In the spring, a gazebo will be added at the northern edge of the existing park. The former riverbed to the north of the park will continue to be green space and will be landscaped over time.
Besides Glidden, other speakers at the dedication ceremony will include Vice President for Advancement Leonard Raley, Vice President for Administration Gary North and Associate Professor Emeritus of Interpersonal Communication Chuck Carlson.
