ATHENS, Ohio (October 31, 2000) -- Area individuals are encouraged to be audience members at a live broadcast of two radio shows at Ohio University Saturday Nov. 4, at 8 p.m. in the Forum Theater, located in the Radio-Television Communication building on College Street. Those interested in being part of the live audience should arrive by 7:30 p.m.
Culminating a weeklong celebration of WOUB's 50th Anniversary, Ohio University journalism, telecommunication and theater students will air two radio dramas with the help of Frank Stasio, a well-known voice on National Public Radio, and George Zarr, a senior producer who specializes in science fiction productions.
Stasio, former newscaster for NPR, is using his talents as an independent radio producer and radio journalism trainer to help students learn the ropes in a radio theater workshop Sunday, Oct. 29 through Saturday, Nov. 4. The resulting drama will air live on WOUB-FM.
"Frank Stasio has a long-time love of radio drama," said Kathy Krendl, dean of the College of Communication and a sponsor of the workshop. "His knowledge and experiences will help us celebrate the history of the station and teach students basic radio skills outside of a classroom setting."
Zarr, a senior producer, writer, director and composer for the Sci-Fi Channel's "Seeing Ear Theatre," will join Stasio. Zarr has produced almost two dozen programs, more than half of which he wrote himself, directing such talents as Tony Danza and Bronson Pinchot. Zarr has also created, written and produced comedy series for NPR.
The workshop is sponsored by the College of Communication, the School of Telecommunications, the Communication and Development program and WOUB Radio.
