ATHENS, Ohio (October 26, 2000) -- Black history scholar Ancella Radford Bickley will visit Ohio University Thursday, Nov. 2. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend her scheduled events.
Bickley will present "Recapturing Black History in West Virginia" at 11 a.m. at the Friends of the Library Room in Alden Library. She will discuss both the process and results of her research.
Following her presentation will be a luncheon meeting at the Bunch of Grapes room in Baker Center, 12:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. The lunch will provide an opportunity to discuss community-based research in regional studies.
Bickley's research in oral and documentary sources has fostered enlightenment about the African American experience in West Virginia and throughout Appalachia. She is also working with the Ohio University Press on an oral history, co-edited with Lynda Ann Ewen, titled "Memphis Tennessee Garrison: the Remarkable Story of a Black Appalachian Woman."
Bickley's visit is sponsored by the following Ohio University affiliates: American Studies Steering Committee, African American Studies, the History Department, Women's Studies program, the 1804 Foundation for "American Studies Master's Degree" and the College of Communication.
