Common Questions
Storing Your Media
Workstation Temporary Media drives are free to be cleared of files by individual users before starting any type of multimedia project. The Temporary Media drives on the workstations are the only recommended drive that you should store media while editing audio and video projects.  (these drives maintain proper data rate delivery during editing)

Before you start to use a workstation, delete all files on the Temporary Media drive. This defragments the built in workstation drive to give you the best performance for demanding audio or video edit sessions. Normally, you would set your projects to write files to the Temporary Media drive on the workstation.

It is possible to work directly off of a remote FireWire drive during some audio/video editing sessions but, it is not recommended. The built in Temporary Media drive in the workstation will give you the best performance for this task.

WARNING!

After you are done with your edit session, you must back up your files from the Temporary Media drive to your own FireWire drive before you leave the workstation. Files are deleted off of the Temporary Media drives on a very regular basis, both by other users, and by lab staff.  This allows each user to have temporary ownership of the workstation drive during their edit sessions.
