Mission Statement Our mission is to provide an intellectual environment and educational experience from which students and faculty contribute to society and to the mechanical engineering profession through research, teaching, and service. Our department will have a comprehensive, industry-responsive, broad-based curriculum in mechanical engineering which emphasizes fundamentals along with engineering applications and communication and computing skills to prepare students for entry into the profession, for graduate education and life-long learning, and to function as productive, ethical professionals in the global economy. The undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) degree is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET). ABET is the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology. Vision Statement - We will provide an undergraduate education in mechanical engineering that is the highest in quality and the best value in the State of Ohio.
- We will provide an educational experience that fosters student creativity, and the development of critical thinking.
- We will provide an educational experience that prepares our graduates for successful careers and to be good citizens.
- We will attract and retain top quality students, staff and faculty.
- We will promote diversity in recruiting and retaining new faculty staff and students.
- We will provide a full range of graduate educational programs (M.S. and Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering that focus on our inherent strengths.
- We will continuously improve opportunities and resources for scholarly activities and research.
- We will strive to incorporate new technology to improve our teaching and the research experiences of our students.
- We will seek continuous improvement of our program based upon recommendations from our students, employers and alumni.

Values and Beliefs 1. Our focus is student education and development: - We provide a student-centered educational program characterized by a respect for students and their individual needs, an open environment that encourages innovation and critical thinking, and a strong focus on real-world examples and the application of engineering knowledge.
- We believe that student learning occurs in and outside the classroom. Therefore, we encourage interactions between faculty and students through extracurricular student activities and research experiences. We also promote the cooperative education program and industry internships. We are committed to educating the whole student rather than merely performing job training. We emphasize teamwork and professional skills in addition to technical skills, and promote professionalism, integrity, and involvement in society by word and by our example.
- We respect and value the diversity of our student population. We encourage students to respect and consider the ideas and perspectives of all other students.
2. We support and encourage research excellence: - We engage in research and scholarly activity to expand the base of engineering knowledge, develop solutions and applications that improve our society, and provide meaningful learning activities for students in the classroom and in the laboratory.
- We are committed to improving our research facilities to accommodate our growing research program.
3. Our faculty and staff are our most important resources: - We respect our faculty and staff, and support their development and personal growth.
