Frequently Asked Questions About Financial Aid
To receive financial aid, what scores are needed on the GRE quantitative and verbal sections?
We like to see a total score of 1200 or more with at least 700 in quantitative.
How important is the GRE score to the admissions committee?
GRE and quality (reputation) of the student's academic institution are the most important factors.
Do you provide support to new M.S. students through teaching assistantships, research assistantships, scholarships, or tuition waivers?
Yes, we do provide financial aid every year to incoming M.S. students.
How many new M.S. students are supported, or what percent of new applicants are supported?
The number of applications changes each year, but our support level is about the same, so the percentage may vary. We provide financial aid to about 10 M.S. students each year, with a total intake of about 20 new students each year.
If a student does not get support in the first quarter, can he or she obtain support (teaching or research assistantship) in later quarters if he or she performs well?
Yes. Many of our students are subsequently supported by research projects. However, the research assistantship support is tied to specific research projects, so the student has to be flexible in his or her choice of research.
What is the M.S. application deadline date?
For Fall Quarter admissions, the recommended date is February 15 for financial aid. International students should apply earlier if the visa process will take a long time. There is no deadline for applications since we admit students for all quarters, but most of the financial aid is offered to fall quarter applicants.
