UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

Information and Telecommunication Systems students visit with alumni Ron Minto and Matt Brainard, of the Columbus Cisco office, via TelePresence, during a student group visit to Cincinnati.

Whenever you use the Internet, make a telephone call, or use a cell phone, information network technology is at work. The McClure School will prepare you for a career in the rapidly growing information network technology field. The McClure School will teach you about the design, management, regulation, and application of information network technology.

The McClure School offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication. To earn your degree, you will work with the McClure School's faculty in the classroom and utilize the McClure School's extensive laboratory facilities. You will gain hands-on experience with the technologies that are revolutionizing the way that individuals, businesses, and governments communicate. These technologies include video conferencing, which makes it possible for business executives to have a face-to-face meeting from thousands of miles apart; wireless telecommunications systems, which allow communication from anywhere on the globe; and the Internet, which offers new ways for businesses and individuals communicate, like e-mail, the World Wide Web, and streaming media. You will also examine the economic and policy implications of information technology and how the technology is utilized. The McClure School's program for voice, data, and image communication systems is one of the few in the country and unique in the state of Ohio.  For more information, download the ITS Brochure.

The McClure School also offers a minor, approved in 2008.

Ohio University ITS alums begin at Progressive Insurance with a discernable advantage over other collegiate hires due to the highly specialized and cutting-edge curriculum of the J. Warren McClure School.  The unique mix of technical, business and interpersonal communication courses included in the program produce exceptionally well rounded and extremely valuable employees.  The ITS program, by no mistake, also instills initiative as an essential trait in its grads.  This is evident by the fact that 33 of the 39 ITS grads hired, are still with Progressive and that 11 have earned roles outside of their initial hiring position which require increased accountability, leadership and aptitude. - Thomas Cunningham, IT Business Leader, Progressive Insurance, 2006
