Internships for Academic Credit
Students may make use of the Resume Service whether they plan to seek academic credit for their experience or not. Qualified students may, however, choose to enroll in the University for academic credit during the internship semester, earning up to 12 credit hours of ITS 4910. This is an optional class and does not count as an ITS elective course.
To receive academic credit, a student must:
- be an Information and Telecommunication Systems major, in good academic standing, with at least 60 hours completed at the time of the internship,
- have completed ITS 2300 and one 3000-level ITS course, and
- have at least one semester remaining on campus after the internship.
Students meeting these requirements are asked to complete and application form which requests information regarding courses taken, special interests and skills, and geographic preference.
Regardless of how the student found the internship, it must be qualified:
- at least 10 weeks in length,
- full-time,
- paid, and
- doing telecom-related work.
Once hired, students enrolled in ITS 4910 are required to document their experience.
- While on the job, the student writes a journal discussing and evaluating their experiences, submitted at the end of their internship semester.
- At the close of the internship the sponsor should submit to the internship coordinator an evaluation of the intern's performance; standard company evaluations are acceptable.
