Interest
My linguistics experience involved using generative theories of
language (minimalist syntax, OT phonology, etc) to look at language
acquisition, make inferences about the architecture of our minds and
the communication and learning systems within them, and indirectly
inform related fields of psychology, neurology, etc. I'm also pretty
sure (although I'm young and lots of powerful professors would
probably disagree) that the same systems of learning/acquisition,
pattern recognition, etc. are active in language as well as other
varied activities like playing music, walking, and using a computer.
I am currently teaching pre-academic English-language courses, and I
find that applied linguistics is a nice change from abstract theory.
Et cetera
Aside from being an English teacher, I like to play music, grow food,
and walk around in the woods. I am interested in organic sustainable
agriculture, and especially in (re)integrating small-scale food
production into the landscape and our daily lives. This can be
achieved easily (no care!) by replacing foreign ornamentals in your
landscaping with native food-bearing plants, like blackberry and
gooseberry bushes, hazelnut shrubs, black walnuts, paw paws, or buckeyes.
