After spending time teaching English in Spain, Mexico, and Cincinnati, Lara returned to Athens in 2004 in order to pursue her career and personal interests.  She began teaching in the Linguistics Department as an OPIE instructor in 2004, and has taught in the English Language Improvement Program since its inception. During this time, she has considered it a privilege to meet people from around the world who have come to Athens for their graduate degrees, undergraduate degrees, study abroad, and Fulbright pre-college orientation.

Lara’s primary research interests are in teaching and acquiring new pronunciation patterns, International Teaching Assistants’ (ITAs) experiences with improving spoken English intelligibility, the student-centered classroom, and reasons behind reticence.
