Language as a tool of communication is my professional interest; my goal is to be able to speak and read as many languages as possible. For me, conveying meaning and acquiring knowledge are ongoing affairs, as is avoiding complacency in what I already know.

As an instructor of English, I find that one of the greatest moments in the classroom is when a student reads a text and truly understands it. It is my privilege to watch my students comprehend a written work in their second language, and this is a gift that I am glad to offer. Thankfully, my background in English writing gives me a good framework from which to present guidance to my students, and my own extensive reading reminds me that the rewards of reading well are immeasurable. I recognize that the best readers are the ones who are motivated by a thirst for knowledge; I strive to instill this desire in my students.
