Have served as the OPIE Testing and Placement
Coordinator and the Reading Skill Area Coordinator for many years in
addition to being a lecturer in the intensive English program. Directed
the USIA-funded Summer English Teaching Institute for South African and
Namibian English Language Teaching Educators in 1990, 1991, 1995, and
1997. As Phase II (1996) follow-up for the USIA-funded PRODELT program
for Palestinian and Israeli English teachers and trainers, made a
consultancy visit to The Gaza Strip, Israel, and The West Bank, where I
delivered lectures and workshops related to the teaching of English and
the training of ELT teachers and trainers. I lived and worked in The
Côte d'Ivoire, Libya, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt before coming to
OPIE in 1987.
Personal interests include reading, book collecting,
studying Egyptian hieroglyphs (Middle Kingdom), Egyptology generally,
the J.F.K. assassination, taphonomy, cooking, eating, and fighting the
'battle of the bulge.'
