Greetings! I have been teaching in O.P.I.E. since the summer of 2006. My previous job experience includes the following teaching positions:
Other related experience:
I graduated from O.U. with an M.A. in Linguistics. I also completed my B.A. in Linguistics – although I was originally an English major (creative writing and literature). I gave my pro-seminar thesis, “The Effects of Background Music on Reading Comprehension,” in the spring of 2003. Reading comprehension has been one of my professional interests. In addition, my time spent teaching abroad has brought my attention to the social and political role of English as a second language. I continue to be fascinated by the effectiveness of using background music to enhance the learning experience. Furthermore, I like focusing on how students’ knowledge of their own learning style profiles might help them develop better language learning strategies. My favorite text to interpose on appropriate levels (advanced and part-time English) is Becoming a Master Student by Dave Ellis. This text refers to the Kolb Learning Style inventory of which I find is an accurate way of interpreting one’s one profile. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy playing billiards, giving tea parties, watching foreign films (especially Russian and French), and playing with my son. Cheers! |
