| Japanese Language Program |
Japanese Study Abroad Study Abroad in Japan in the Fall with Program Site The program takes place at Chubu University, located in a suburb of Nagoya. Chubu University has fine educational facilities and is conveniently located in central Japan, a location that still preserves many Japanese traditions. Japanese Language The language component consists of three hours of daily Japanese language instruction at either the intermediate or advanced level. Classes are taught by experienced instructors. The language component carries 12 quarter hours of OU credit. Opportunities for language practice outside the classes are numerous (e.g. conversation partners, Chubu University club, weekend home stays). Japanese Culture The cultural component consists of weekly experiential activities such as flower arranging, tea ceremony, calligraphy, etc. Weekly field trips to places of cultural and historical interest are also included as well as an overnight trip to Kyoto. Students will receive 4 hours of quarter credits for the cultural component. Eligibility At least one year of college Japanese or the equivalent. Living Arrangements Students are housed in a dormitory on the Chubu University campus. Rooms are double occupancy. Linens are provided. Breakfast and supper are provided in the dorm cafeteria during the weekdays. A stipend is provided for lunches and weekend meals. Costs Program costs + OU tuition + round trip airfare. Typically, it costs about $2,500 more to study in Japan than to study in Athens for the quarter. Financial Aid All financial aid (except work-study) from your institution should apply. Contact your financial aid officer or the study abroad advisor at your institution. Japanese government scholarships are available for those students who study longer than one quarter in Japan.
