Oral Interview Guideline
Individual Oral Interview scheduled
in the 9th Week (11/3&11/5) will be conducted in the following
manner.
You should be able to have a short conversation (about 5-7 minutes) on
topics
related to traveling and/or housing. If you bring artifacts, e.g.
pictures
of people and places, they will be very useful to make the conversation
more
interesting and easy to carry on. The interview is conducted
individually
and solely in Japanese.
1. TOPICS
You can talk about anything that is broadly related to traveling and/or housing. For preparation, ask yourself when, where, what, with whom, how, etc. about each small episode that is part of your whole story.
2. FRAME OF THE INTERVIEW
Opening
Greetings and small talk (e.g., time, date, days of the week, weather and climate, etc.)
Main Conversation
Initiate the conversation on the topic, by introducing it and describing it. You should add your opinions and be able to answer the interviewer’s questions. Also ask the interviewer pertinent questions about the topic.
Closing
Short comments on the interview (e.g. easy, difficult, fun, etc.) and greetings
3. Evaluation Criteria (Total Point = 30)
Information (10):
ability to provide a large amount of information with details
Communication (10):
ability to initiate, sustain, restore, and develop an interactive language use
Language (10):
ability to use complex as well as simple sentence structures with appropriately conjugated verbs and adjectives
