Midterm 1
Midterm 1 scheduled on Tuesday, April 29 will cover the following:    (subject to minor changes)
 

I.    Listening Comprehension    <approximately 10 points>

    All the listening comprehension materials covered for the weekly quizzes (QA1 through
    QA4) and LC1 & LC2.
 

II.    Grammar   <approximately 35 points>

    You will be tested on the following grammar points:

        G28:        Potential Form of Verbs
        G29:        The Te-form of Verbs + IMASU
        G30:        Relative Clauses
        G31:        Describing Change in State (~NARU)
        G32:        Expressing Experience (The Ta-form of Verbs + ARIMASU)

        G35:         Excessiveness (~SUGIRU)

    Review all the handouts and homework assignments!

III.    Reading    <approximately 5 points>

    You will read a short passage and answer questions.
 

Extra Points    <5>

    You have to be able to read, write and understand the meaning of all the Kanji from Chapter 5.
    Refer to the Kanji lists given for QB(4).



 
Midterm 2
Midterm 2 scheduled on Thursday, May 29 will cover the following:    (subject to minor changes)
 

I.    Listening Comprehension    <10>

    1. You will answer Y/N questions based on the dialoges or activities in the textbook.
        Refer to the Listening Comprehension section of the QA(5)-QA(8) announcement.
 
 
 

II.    Grammar   <28>

    You will be tested on the following grammar points:

        G34:        Expressing an Opinion    ~TOOMOU
        G35:        Excessiveness    ~SUGIRU
        G36:        Quoting Speech    ~TOIU
        G33:        Expressing a Desire    ~HOSHII/~HOSHIGARU/~TAI/~TAGARU
        G37:        Expressing Intention    ~TSUMORI/TheVolitional Form of Verbs + OMOU
        G38:        The Te-form of Verbs + MIRU/SHIMAU/IKU/KURU
        G39:        Expressing Simultaneous Actions    ~NAGARA

III.    Reading    <6>

    You will read a short passage and answer questions.

IV.    Kanji    <6>

   You have to be able to read, write and understand the meaning of all the Kanji from Chapter 6.
    Refer to the Kanji lists given for the QB(7) announcement.

Extra Points    <5>

    Vocabulary identification.  You will write the meaning of a list of words.  Study vocabulary on    pp. 362-363 (Foods and Beverages), p.382 (Flavors, tastes, and seasonings).



 
Final Exam

FINAL exam is scheduled : 9am class---June 09 (W) at 7:00 p.m.   

                                             10am class---June 09 (W at  7:00 p.m.                    

                                             11am class---June 09 (W) at  7:00 p.m.

                                             12pm class---June 09 (W) at  7:00 p.m.

Final Exam <150 points> will consist of the following:  (subject to minor changes)
 

I.    Listening Comprehension    <25>

    You will answer Y/N questions based on eight of  the dialogues/activities from the textbook.
    Refer to the Listening Comprehension section of the QA(1)-QA(10) announcement.
    There will be some questions based on LC4 and LC5 assignments.

II.    Vocabulary    <5>

    Choose an appropriate vocabulary word for each blank so that each sentence makes sense.

III.    Grammar   <50>

    You will be tested on all the grammar points covered in this quarter.

    1.    Choose an appropriate answer for each blank so that each conversation makes sense.

    2.    Choose an inappropriate answer for each blank so that the sentence with the answer doesn't make sense.

    3.    Questions and Answers:    You will be asked questions and you answer them in a complete Japanese sentence.

       Review all the handouts and homework assignments, quizzes and exams!

IV.    Reading    <30>

    You will read three short passages/conversations and answer Y/N questions or answer questions in Japanese.

V.    Writing    <25>

    You will choose a topic and write a short composition on it. You should write at least 15 lines and expand as much as possible, using the vocabulary, Katakana, Kanji and grammar structures that you have learned. Refer to the composition assignments (1) and (2). The evaluation will be based on the following:
                    Content
                    Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji
                    Vocabulary
                    Grammar Structure
                    Language Variety

VI.    Kanji    <15>

    You will have to read, write and understand the meaning of all the Kanji from Chapters 5-6.
    Refer to the Kanji lists given for the QB(10) announcement.

Extra Points    <15>

    You will write the meanings of the given Japanese words in English.
