Spectrum: Gender Variant-Transgender Queer Support Group
Creating a safe place for individuals, both student and non-student, wanting to explore and discuss their gender identity ranging from questioning to gender queer to those who need practical help and support in changing their name, seeking medical treatment, communicating with family members, and adjusting to the change in their gender identity on campus and elsewhere can benefit from this support group. This is a support group of OU’s Counseling & Psychological Services. Contact psychologist Susan Young at 740.249.4159 or youngs2@ohio.edu to express interest in joining the group.
Counseling and Psychological Services
CPS in Hudson Heath Center has several trans-friendly counselors. Call 740.593.1616 to set up an appointment.
Campus Care
Campus Care has two family physicians – Dr. Balbo and Dr. Duval - who are trans-friendly and provide appropriate primary health care services to transgender students at Ohio University, including hormones for male-to-female and female-to-male transitioning. Both doctors strive to provide care that is within the WPATH version 7, 2012 (http://www.wpath.org/documents/IJT%20SOC,%20V7.pdf). Please note that Campus Care services are only available to Ohio University students. Transgender students may schedule an appointment with Dr. Balbo or Duval by calling 740-593-1660.
UMA Family Medicine
Dr. Katy Kropf is a family doctor practicing at UMA Family Medicine in Parks Hall in Athens, Ohio. She is an Athens family doctor who provides primary care, including hormones, to transgender people according to the WPATH 7th Standards of Care as well. Her practice would be for non-Ohio University students in the Athens area and 740-593-2516 is the phone number to call to schedule an appointment. Because her practice is full but trans-friendly health care options in our community are limited, patients should identify themselves as seeking transgender care when they make the appointment with her.
