1-HELP SELECT THE NEXT CHIEF DIVERSITY OFFICER!
The university is in the process of hiring a new Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion (the area that oversees the LGBT Center and other diversity functions). One candidate, Lawrence Potter was on campus yesterday. There are 2 more candidates next week. Below are the opportunities to meet each candidate. Your input on the candidates is very welcomed! 3-DON’T MISS ‘LOVE SEAT’ THURSDAY!
Love Seat: Travel Beyond the Binary is a topical open conversation and community dialog that will focus on experiences of traveling in a gender non-conforming body, the complications of identification, and international interactions as a non-binary gender queer. Kris Grey/Justin Credible is a gender queer artist whose work combines strategies of communication, activism, community building, education, lecture, and studio production in the mediums of ceramics, sculpture, sound, mixed media, performance and live art. 5-OU GENDER PROJECT NEEDS YOUR HELP!
OU graduate student Milo Wilson is seeking our community’s assistance with an anonymous research project to help better understand how different social and interpersonal experiences impact the coping and mental health of transgender and cisgender (those whose assigned birth sex is congruent with gender identity) individuals. Participation in this project will involve taking 20-30 minutes to complete several questionnaires, some of which will ask about social, psychological, and interpersonal experiences. To participate you must be 18 year of age and older. Although this study is specifically seeking individual who identify as transgender or gender variant, persons of all gender identities are encouraged to participate.

6-COURSES: GAY & LESBIAN POLITICS OFFERED THIS SUMMER!
Join Professor Susan Burgess this summer for her online class, POLS 319: Gay & Lesbian Politics. The class will be online and will cover issues such: the Stonewall Rebellion, civil rights, coming out, military inclusion, the right to privacy, and the right to marry. Readings will be drawn from Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home (a graphic novel), Fred Fejes’ Gay Rights and Moral Panic: The Origins of America’s Debate on Homosexuality, and Gary Mucciaroni’s Same Sex, Different Politics: Success and Failure in the Struggles Over Gay Rights. Assignments will include two open-book exams and short papers (1-2 pages) that respond to the readings. For additional information, e-mail Professor Burgess at burgess@ohio.edu.
7-COURSES: FALL ‘QUEER LIT’ GLITCH!
Professor of English Sherrie Gradin will be teaching GLBTQ Literature next Fall. However, there is an issue with prereqs in the system due to Q2S. Instead of ENG 151 it now reads 2010 or 2020 for prereqs so some students cannot register. For those who get shut out by this glitch Dr. Gradin will gladly pink slip you in: gradin@ohio.edu.
8-INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR PEOPLE OF COLOR!
The Next Wave Internship Program invites talented LGBT students of color currently enrolled at accredited colleges and universities to apply for an opportunity to work closely with some of the nation’s top LGBT leaders. Interns receive a $2400/semester stipend. Both Fall 2012 and Winter 2013 internships are available with potential to extend placements into a 30/hrs per week paid summer internship with one of Pipeline’s programmatic partners. Select students will also be chosen to attend the 2013 Creating Change Conference in Atlanta, GA. This is a tremendous opportunity to gain practical experience and knowledge within the LGBT movement! 9-AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL SEEKS VOLUNTEERS!
Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) is currently seeking volunteer applicants for its LGBT Rights Coordination Group. Members will support some combination of work in the following areas: Seeking the decriminalization of homosexuality; opposing discrimination in civil marriage; insuring accountability for reports of human rights violations based on sexual orientation or gender identity; supporting human rights defenders at risk worldwide; support for domestic and international Pride activities and other outreach efforts; facilitating internal capacity building to insure the complete integration of gender, sexuality and identity issues in all of AIUSA’s work. 10-LGBT SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY!
An on-line site is offering a scholarship for the 2012-2013 academic year. The ‘Speak Out Against Prejudice Scholarship’ will be awarded to one deserving student passionate about doing their part to stop bullying, prejudice, and negative stigmas generally, in particular as they relate to the GLBT community. The scholarship will be in the amount of $5,000 and will go towards helping the student pay for non-tuition expenses such as: rent, childcare, travel expenses, textbooks/supplies, utilizes, groceries, and other expenses. 11-‘OUT TO INNOVATE’ SCHOLARSHIPS!
Battelle and the National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals (NOGLSTP) are now accepting applications for the 2012 Battelle/NOGLSTP ‘Out To Innovate’ Scholarships. The scholarships are intended for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in STEM programs who are either LGBT or an active ally of the LGBT community. The scholarships are funded at a minimum of $5,000. Student applicants must meet the following criteria: Successful completion of a minimum of two years of post-high school education at an accredited college or university, minimum GPA of 3.0 for the entirety of enrollment, a declared major in a STEM or STEM-related field, and be an active supporter of and participant in programs or organizations that promote LGBT inclusion and visibility. *SEXUAL MINORITY CAREER DECISION MAKING!
Research Project: This study seeks to explore the career decision making perceptions of sexual minority college students at an urban Historically Black University. This study more specifically delves into how sexual minorities feel their visible variables of race, gender expression, and degree of disclosure influence their career thought process. Theories that were used to explicate the theoretical relation to sexual minority career perceptions included: Krumboltz’s social learning theory of career decision making, gender role theory, racial socialization, Cass’ homosexual identity model, and impression management.
