WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE OUT or TO BE AN ALLY?
It is important to be Out in order to raise awareness among the general population, and to be a role-model for other LGBT people. No one should ever be able to say “But I don’t know anyone who is gay.” Because they do. Me.
WHY ARE YOU “PROUD”? WHAT ARE YOU MOST “PROUD” OF?
I am proud the way this community has grown and changed. It is truly a dynamic and vibrant group of individuals who are all strong and proud. I am most proud that I can be a part of that.
WHAT WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF COMING OUT?
The most difficult part of coming out was accepting myself, of teaching myself that it is not just OK to be a lesbian, but it is beautiful, powerful, and affirming.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHERS WHO COME OUT?
You are beautiful. Don’t hide that beauty away behind a facade that just makes you hate yourself. Show it to the world. In time, they will recognize how beautiful you see yourself and believe and agree with you.
THOUGHTS FOR NON-LGBT PEOPLE ABOUT LGBT PEOPLE AND CONCERNS:
Don’t be afraid to question your assumptions or anyone else's. There are no easy answers, but don’t be afraid to ask the question.
