Jim Sand, Ally Director, University Judiciaries INVOLVEMENTS AT OU: I worked in Residence Life for 17 years before moving over to Judiciaries. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE AN ALLY? I feel being an Ally is important because of the oppressive way our society treats individuals who identify as LGBTQ. WHY ARE YOU “PROUD”? WHAT ARE YOU MOST “PROUD” OF? That I have friends and colleagues who identify as LGBTQ who know that I support them. THOUGHTS FOR NON-LGBT PEOPLE ABOUT LGBT PEOPLE AND CONCERNS: We, as allies, need to do all we can to get equal rights for LGBT people; that equal rights are not privileges.
