WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE OUT?
As a Gay student of color, I think it's important to be out so that members of the Ohio University community are aware that there are students who have a dual identity. I also think it is important for younger Gay students of color to see me as an out person of color because too many times those students feel they have to choose between their respective communities.

WHY ARE YOU “PROUD”?  WHAT ARE YOU MOST “PROUD” OF?
When I was a first year student, I spoke to perspective LINKS peer advisors about being a Gay student of color. I think it opened my peers’ eyes about how they can positively impact a LINKEES tenure here by being supportive and open, or how they can negatively affect a LINKEES time here by positing a notion of intolerance and prejudice.

WHAT WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF COMING OUT?
The most difficult part of coming out was not knowing how my family or friends would react. I can say that I am rather fortunate because both my family and friends have been supportive of my sexuality.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHERS WHO COME OUT?
Come out when you feel you're ready. Nobody knows when that time will be besides you.

THOUGHTS FOR NON-LGBT PEOPLE ABOUT LGBT PEOPLE AND CONCERNS:
I think the non-LGBT community should take head to the fact that our issues in the LGBT community are their issues as well. They should listen and take time to really think about how their action or inaction, affects their fellow Americans.
