Barb Harrison, Ally Associate Director, Residential Housing INVOLVEMENTS AT OU: Professional Staff member in Residence Life since 1991. Active Community Member. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE AN ALLY? It's important for me to be an active Ally because I want to be able to provide support to students and staff who are LGBT. It's important that those like me who are supportive make ourselves visible. WHY ARE YOU “PROUD”? WHAT ARE YOU MOST “PROUD” OF? I'm proud to live in a community where LGBT issues are talked about and opportunities to further work for LGBT equal rights are available. THOUGHTS FOR NON-LGBT PEOPLE ABOUT LGBT PEOPLE AND CONCERNS: Being LGBT is an invisible difference, this is partly what makes it still so easy for others to oppress and for LGBT people to remain closeted. It is only through action and support that we can make a difference in their lives and experience in Athens and at O.U.
