INVOLVEMENTS AT OU: UCM: Center for Spiritual Growth & Social Justice Intern, Institute for Local Government Administration & Rural Development (ILGARD) at the Voinovich School for Leadership & Public Affairs, and SpeakOUT! WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE OUT? Being out is a form of everyday activism and awareness-raising. At its best, it allows one to lead a life of wholeness instead of guardedness and fear. WHY ARE YOU “PROUD”? WHAT ARE YOU MOST “PROUD” OF? I am not proud of being gay, since I did not have much choice in the matter. However, I am proud to live honestly and to have placed myself within supportive communities. WHAT WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF COMING OUT? Facing rejection from conservative friends and family members. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHERS WHO COME OUT? "Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning." ~Psalm 30:5b THOUGHTS FOR NON-LGBT PEOPLE ABOUT LGBT PEOPLE AND CONCERNS At its heart, the debate over sexual orientation is about freedom - an ideal that weighs heavily for Americans - which is something many of those who claim to be most patriotic seem to have forgotten along the way.
