INVOLVEMENTS AT OU: Atkinson Hall Council advisor and Kappa Delta Pi WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE AN ALLY? Everyone wants to feel loved, respected, and supported. WHY ARE YOU “PROUD”? WHAT ARE YOU MOST “PROUD” OF? I am so proud of my LGBT friends who are able to be "out" and live their lives as they choose. I am also proud to know so many allies who have reached out and let members of the LGBT community feel comfortable being who they are. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHERS WHO COME OUT? Stay strong! Be true to yourself and come out when you are ready. Be prepared to deal with close-minded people but also remember how many people support and love you for whom you really are. THOUGHTS FOR NON-LGBT PEOPLE ABOUT LGBT PEOPLE AND CONCERNS: No one should be defined solely by their sexual orientation. Don’t assume everyone in the room is heterosexual. Get to know members of the LGBT community and help fill this world with equality and love.
