Sarah L. Kilbarger, Ally
Junior, History

INVOLVEMENTS AT OU:
I am a Community Assistant in the Read Johnson Scholars Complex, and an active member of the Lost Flamingo Theater Company, including work on the annual production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE OUT or TO BE AN ALLY?
I have seen first-hand the pain stereotypes, criticism, and ignorance have caused to the members of my family who are out. It is so important to me to further the world’s understanding that we aren’t talking about ‘those’ people. Sexual orientation is absolutely not the one and only defining characteristic of a person.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
Ever since I saw the first one of these posters, I thought it was a great way to let everyone on campus know that we live in a wonderfully accepting place. I am so glad to finally have the chance to be a part of this noble effort; I am going to hang the poster right next to my SafeZone card on my door.
