Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences

HSLS Undergraduate Program
  • Students will possess basic knowledge of the physical, biological, social/emotional, developmental, and linguistic contributors to normal communication.
  • Students will possess basic knowledge of communication disorders and their causes.
  • Students will demonstrate the integration of service-related application with their academic knowledge of communication and communication disorders.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of the need for and substance of a graduate education to deliver appropriate clinical services to people with communication disorders.
  • Seniors will demonstrate lifelong learning skills to prepare them for graduate studies or career alternatives.
HSLS MA and AuD Programs (Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology)
  • Students will acquire increasingly advanced clinical information about communication disorders.
  • Students will demonstrate basic skills in providing clinical services related to primary communication disorders.
  • Students will provide supervised clinical services in a professional and ethical way with appropriate sensitivity to multicultural concerns.

HSLS PhD Programs (Hearing Science and Speech and Language Science)
  • Students will demonstrate advanced breadth and depth of knowledge in one major area of scholarly focus within the field of communication sciences and disorders.
  • Students will demonstrate advanced breadth and depth of knowledge in two minor areas of scholarship, one within the field of communication sciences and disorders and the other in a related area.
  • Students will demonstrate increasing independence in processes of literature review, experimental design, implementation of empirical research studies, quantitative and qualitative analysis of data, and preparation of research reports of peer-reviewed publication.
  • Students will demonstrate increasing independence in grant writing to support research.
