Visual Communication
Students of the School of Visual Communication are expected to thoroughly understand and practice the following goals and objectives in their program of study:
- They should use the highest ethical standards when gathering, editing, publishing, distributing and managing visual communication material.
- They should use the basic skills of writing, editing, photography, graphics and interactive media with sufficient expertise to compete effectively for employment within the visual communication industry.
- They should make sustained efforts to create the most effective use of visuals in the media, with the goal of accurately and fairly communicating ideas and information to readers and viewers.
- They should have the skills necessary to adapt to changing technology found in the visual communication field.
- They should understand and practice the philosophy that content and not style is the paramount consideration in the gathering, selection and creation of excellent visual communication.
- They should have the people skills to enhance a visual communicator’s ability to serve as a leader both within and outside the workplace.
Graduates of the School of Visual Communication should have gained the following:
- Understand, and at all times apply, the highest ethical standards when gathering information, contacting others, creating images and publishing their communication work.
- Creatively use appropriate visual tools to professionally communicate important and interesting information in a timely manner to a well-defined audience.
- Build upon a solid foundation of visual communication methods and research to expand the quality and effectiveness of their own creative work.
- Embrace changes in technology, analyze new visual communication methods and apply these in aesthetically appropriate and informative ways.
- Appreciate the value of collaboration and be able to incorporate their personal ideas and goals into outstanding group efforts.
