Media Arts and Studies
Undergraduate Program
Graduates of the School of Media Arts and Studies will:
- Demonstrate the ability to critically analyze media for their social, cultural, aesthetic, and historical impact and/or value.
- Understand the business imperatives that influence the creation of media products, including economics/finance, law/policy, and audience/buyer.
- Demonstrate creativity and storytelling skills through production of innovative media.
- Develop technical competencies needed to enhance and enable the creative, business, or academic vision.
- Understand media from a global perspective.
- Understand the importance of a liberal arts education to foster long-term growth and success in the media professions.
- Develop leadership competencies that enable effective communication and collaboration within media organizations or teams.
- Demonstrate strong skills for the professional world, such as the ability to write clearly and persuasively, and the ability to verbally “sell” ideas and make presentations.
Graduate Program
Graduates of the School of Media Arts and Studies will:
- Understand a range of methodological and theoretical orientations relevant to the study of media.
- Critically evaluate media research.
- Conduct and publish complex scholarly research related to media.
- Teach courses at the university level within a specialization.
- Interact effectively with professional peers.
