Information and Telecommunication Systems
Undergraduate: BS in Communication, Major: ITS
- Students will have a basic knowledge of local area and wide area network technologies, how they work, what their functions are, and how they are established.
- Students will have a basic knowledge of voice technologies; i.e., what is included in voice technologies, the basic technical underpinnings of these technologies, and the uses of these technologies.
- Students will have an understanding of the information that is transported, and the importance of its accuracy and security.
- Students will have a clear understanding of who the regulators and policy makers are in the voice and data communications industry and of how they interact.
- Students will be able to analyze a real-life communication technology case study in order to identify the technical, regulatory, and management problems and challenges; formulate and present options; and make recommendations for optimal solutions.
- Students will be able to synthesize technology, policy, business fundamentals, and human communications knowledge and skills for complex problem solving.
Graduate: Master of Communication Technology and Policy, Major ITS
- Students will be able to explain theory and principles of their area of specialization (technology or policy).
- Students will be competent in the professional practices of their specialization (technology or policy).
- Students will be able to be key decision makers in telecommunications carrier, equipment supplier, IT department, and regulatory/legislative venues.
- Students will be able to read and comprehend communication technology and policy research and technical reports.
- Students will be able to write technical reports and for those electing the thesis option, write scholarly papers.
- Students will be able to conduct communication technology or policy research at a basic level of competence.
