Being part of a Learning Community (LC) in the College of Health and Human Services means making friends with very diverse interests and talents. The college offers a wide variety of undergraduate majors, including early childhood; adventure recreation; community health services; environmental health science; exercise physiology; family studies; hearing, speech, and language sciences; interior architecture; nutrition with science; physical education; restaurant, hotel, and tourism; retail merchandising; and sport management.
In addition to being automatically enrolled in courses prior to fall quarter, the College of Health and Human Services’ Learning Communities provide you increased opportunities to make friends, participate in special out-of-class activities, and build stronger relationships with other students and faculty in your major area of study. The opportunities to support each other, work together on group projects, and study together are magnified.

Participation Requirements
The only requirement for you to be in a College of Health and Human Services LC is that you be admitted to Ohio University as an incoming freshman and be accepted in the College of Health and Human Services.
Learning Community Options
One of the many advantages of joining a College of Health and Human Services Learning Community is that you are automatically enrolled in a package of courses with other incoming first-year students. The courses normally include one or two general education courses and major course(s). You are also enrolled in a Learning Community seminar course that is the programmatic center of the learning community. This course will serve as a non-major elective. The communities range from 8-15 credit hours for the fall quarter.
There are eight learning community options available within the College. When you apply, you will be given all of these choices; however, only Food for Thought is available for all majors. The others are discipline-specific.
