Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington Holds Promise Lives Campaign Kick-Off Event

Lancaster -  Ohio University President Roderick McDavis believes Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington can exceed its $3.5 million fundraising goal by June, 2015.

McDavis was the keynote speaker at the Promise Lives Campaign kick-off event held on the Herrold Hall lawn on the Ohio University Lancaster Campus June 6.

“This is going to be the first campus to exceed its goal,” said McDavis. “I know that, and I’m excited about it.”

This is the largest fundraising campaign in the 56-year history of the Lancaster campus.  The goal is to raise $3.5 million dollars over three years in order to expand educational opportunities and spur business growth in Fairfield County.

“As of today, before we went public here, we have committed $1.8 million toward the $3.5 million goal,” announced Campaign Chair and Fairfield National Bank President Steve Wells.

The objectives of the Promise Lives Campaign are derived from the promise of our students and the needs in our community.  These directives include expanding access and opportunity for students to create well-trained workers and community leaders, enhancing the academic experience by improving student support services and cultural arts opportunities and to improving and realigning facilities to stimulate job growth and economic development in the region.

“We’re here because we believe in this promise that people can get their education and change their lives,” said Wells.

A key part of the campaign is to raise money for student scholarships, which McDavis says is crucial during these economic times.

“Unfortunately, the cost of higher education is going up. As a result of that, our students need scholarship support,” said McDavis.  “This fundraising campaign means we put this campus on solid footing.  It means we create solid footing for students. It means we can offer more education programs on this campus. It means more scholarships.  It means we increase access to Ohio University Lancaster.”

The Ohio Alumni Varsity Band performed at the launch event and energized the guests.

The Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington campaign goal is part of a $450 million campaign effort for Ohio University as a whole.  McDavis said $391 million has already been raised.

Ohio University’s Lancaster Campus and Pickerington Center are a critical gateway to education and opportunity for our students and community. The Lancaster campus has experienced tremendous progress since its founding in 1956, and continues to provide a premiere university education within a small-college setting at an affordable price.
