July 22, 2014 : Christopher Cross Playing Lancaster, PA and Lancaster, OH
- Cheri Russo
Communications and Marketing Manager

Lancaster – Christopher Cross is going to work very hard to remember he is in Ohio when he performs on the Wendel Concert Stage at OUL Saturday night as part of Lancaster Festival.  But, it’s going to be hard considering he plays in Lancaster, Pennsylvania the night before.

“It’s a total coincidence that we are playing two cities with the same name two nights in a row,” said Cross. “Lancaster, Pennsylvania was booked first.  It’s going to be confusing for the band.”

Cross made history with his 1980 self-titled debut album, winning five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time ever—the four most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also for “Sailing”), and Best New Artist.

The 63-year old said those who attend the show on Saturday night will hear many of his hit songs, but also hear other songs from throughout his more than 30-year career.

“My new album, Secret Ladder, comes out in September,” said Cross. “I’ve made 10 albums over my career.  We’ll play many of the favorites like ‘Sailing,’ ‘Ride like the Wind,’ and ‘Arthur’s Theme.’ We’ll also be playing a broad sampling from a lot of the albums over my career.”

Cross said he looks forward to playing with the Lancaster Festival Orchestra.  He said he has written arrangements of his songs to play with an orchestra.

“It’s an amazing experience to be on stage with 60 world class musicians and hear your music played,” said Cross. “We feature the orchestra during guitar solos and saxophone solos.  We take advantage of the fact that we have the opportunity to do this. We’re looking forward to working with Maestro Gary Sheldon. We’re always very honored and pleased and excited to play with orchestras.  The music really fits it.”
