August 25, 2014 : Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington Launches App
Lancaster – These days there’s always an app for that.  Now, Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington has one!   The Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington app is free for students, faculty and staff to download on their iPhone or Android device.

“Since many students use their phones and tablets for everything, the app puts many of the items they need to be successful in the palms of their hands,” said Communications and Marketing Manager Cheri Russo.

The app was developed over the summer. The idea behind the application was to make the world of college easier to navigate for students, while connecting them to campus life.

“There is an events listing on the app which will make it easier for students to know what is going on around campus and participate in activities while they are taking classes,” said Russo. “Information about upcoming speakers, art exhibits and theatre productions will be listed on the events page. Users can even download the event listing and add it to the calendars on their phones so they don’t forget about it.”

“Hearing presentations and participating in arts and cultural events is part of a well-rounded college experience,” said OUL Dean Dr. Jim Smith. “Since our students are commuters, sometimes they don’t know about the events on campus.  We hope this app will help keep them informed and enhance interest in participation.”

The application also provides students with information about class cancelations, emergency notifications and weather delays, as well as bookstore hours of operation, and the latest menu items at “The Zone.” Users can submit questions or chat live with the OUL Information Desk to help them solve a problem.  The app allows students to submit photos of classes and activities on campus.  The photos will then be displayed in the app photo gallery so other users can see them.

“We hope students, faculty and staff find the app useful.  It will help connect the campus community technologically, which will lead to participation in campus events and less frustration navigating through the college process.”

Some menu pages provide a convenient link to our web site pages in preparation for the Lancaster web site being enhanced for mobile phone viewing in the near future. The app can be found in the iPhone App Store or the Android Google Play Store by searching for the keywords “Ohio University Lancaster.”
