Lancaster – The Community Disposal Day and Drug Drop Off event is being held at the Ohio University Lancaster Campus on Saturday, April 26. The event starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m.
Community members can bring confidential documents to be shredded for free. They can also drop off unused or outdated prescription medication. Batteries, computer equipment, cell phones and telephone books can also be recycled.
This is the fifth year for the event. It is held in the Lancaster Campus North Parking Lot.
Last year, 83,252 pills were collected at the event. 70 pounds of liquids were turned in. Narcotics comprised 5.5% of the pills collected; 950 narcotic patches were collected.
338 cars drove through the drop-off center. That was up from 312 cars the previous year.
Medical equipment, needles and medical waste cannot be accepted. Paint, household chemicals, compact fluorescent light bulbs and televisions are also not accepted.
