Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Director Visits Ohio University Lancaster
Michael Colbert believes holding job fairs on regional campuses are a perfect fit.
Lancaster -Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Director Michael Colbert visited the Ohio University Lancaster Campus Friday morning during a career fair hosted by Fairfield County JFS. The fair was being held in the Brasee Hall gymnasium.
"It's a phenomenal location to have a Job and Family Services Career Fair," said Colbert. "It makes perfect sense."
Different kinds of employers from around the region were at the fair to try to find people to fill positions. Educational institutions were also on hand giving information to those coming through. About 60 vendors had tables at the fair.
"Job fairs are important for employers because they get to meet the people face to face," said Colbert. "It's important for jobseekers because they get to meet their potential employer. There is no technology that equals face-to-face."
Colbert said degree-seeking students at Ohio University Lancaster also attend the fair, and that is something that's a benefit to employers and students.
"This is a large campus. We've got a lot of different people who are going to graduate, and they have an opportunity to meet employers," said Colbert.
Colbert met Lancaster Campus Dean Jim Smith and got a tour of the fair from Fairfield County JFS officials.
"It's really an ideal partnership to host the JFS career fair on our campus," said Smith. "We are partners in both the job placement and economic development needs of the region and state."
Colbert said in a tough economy, Job and Family Services can be a valuable resource for those looking for work. He encourages people to use their county JFS office to help with the job hunt.
Fairfield County JFS holds a job fair at Ohio University Lancaster each fall and spring.
