Making an Impact

Afterschool Programs:

Several academic tests and surveys were conducted during the 30-week schedule to evaluate the program and the children’s learning progress.

Surveys of Kids on Campus students’ parents and teachers were conducted by Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, which provides applied research and technical assistance to government and development organizations. In addition, the children took standardized tests aimed at measuring improvements in reading and math skills.

In 2007, Kids on Campus implemented the LeapFrog intervention system of interactive software. LeapFrog improves reading and math skills by providing personal learning paths to accelerate student mastery of state academic standards.

90% of parents agreed that their child does better in school when attending the program.

81% of Kids on Campus participants improved in reading from pre- to post-test on the LeapTrack reading system during the 2009-'10 academic year.

80% of elementary school teachers said the KoC participants in their classromm had shown improvement (or that no improvement was needed) in turning in homework on time.  This was a 3% increase from the previous year.

73% of KoC participants surveyed said they learned something new at KoC.

72% improved in math from pre- to post-test on the LeapTrack math system during the 2009-'10 academic year.

 

Summer Programs:

Be Bold at Trimble

82% of parents said that their child's social skills had improved as a result of Be Bold.

79% of parents saw their children's physical activity level improve.

79% of parents saw their children's self-esteem improve.

76% of parents reported improvement in their child's reading and critical-thinking skills.

 

Fun and Service Together

75% of students reported greatly improved job skills.

72% of students reported improved goal-setting abilities.

69% of students reported stronger leadership skills.
