[Under Construction]

The Joint Committee on Academic Assessment in Communication Sciences and Disorders (JCAA) is seeking submissions for sharing of assessment resources.

The JCAA’s charge is to help representatives of academic programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders CSD) increase their knowledge of student and program assessment and evaluation tools and methods in complementary ways.

Groups represented by the JCAA, and their corresponding representatives are: the American Academy of Audiology (Gail Whitelaw), the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Council on  Academic Accreditation (CAA) (Frederick Britten), the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Special Interest Division in Higher Education (ASHA SID 10) (Roy Shinn), the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences  and Disorders (CAPCSD) (Brooke Hallowell), and the National Academy of Preprofessional Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (NAPP) (Daniel Tullos).

The JCAA’s primary focus at present is the development of a web site offered to facilitate understanding and implementation of meaningful academic and clinical assessment of students, faculty, teaching/learning methods, clinical supervisors, and academic programs.

The following types of materials are especially sought:

·       Guidelines, primers, instruments, or rubrics for formative and/or summative assessment of learning within any general or specific area within CSD or other related discipline

·       Descriptions of means of integrating clinical assessments with academic study

·       Clinical competency checklists and rating forms

·       Strategies for engaging various levels of student learning (e.g., Bloom’s taxonomy) through assessment graduate survey forms

·       Strategies and tools for assessing research doctoral programs in CSD

·       Strategies and tools for assessing undergraduate programs in CSD

·       Alumni and employer surveys

We encourage you to share this request with others that may have useful materials to share.

Any materials submitted for sharing through the JCAA web site may be sent directly to us as e-mail attachments or on computer disk, or as URLs to links that authors maintain at their own institutions.

bulletNames of authors and institutions will be clearly acknowledged, provided you label your documents accordingly.
bulletThe home page of the JCAA web site will clearly state that viewers must acknowledge authors of all work on which they might draw for any development of their own assessment materials.
bulletWe would be glad to have you mark any documents as a draft if you feel they are not a “finished product.” Many faculty and staff members from a variety of CSD programs are interested in learning about what others are doing at their institutions.
bulletWe will save any files you send us as PDF documents so that they cannot be easily cut and pasted from individuals reviewing your materials via the Internet.
bulletIt is not necessary, but would be very welcome, if you would write a brief description of the instrument, how you use it within your institution, and its advantages and disadvantages. Any information you have about the reliability and validity of any assessment instruments is welcome but not required for inclusion.
bulletMaterials shared through the JCAA web site will not be peer reviewed, and users of the site will be informed of this on the JCAA home page.
