In May 2004, Ohio University (OU) in Athens became IT&FA's third host institution.
OU is a medium-sized doctoral/research university with over 29,000 students on the main campus and five satellite campuses in Southeastern Ohio. Approximately, 3,600 are enrolled in graduate programs, including business, communications, education, engineering, the liberal arts, and medicine. OU maintains a university press, owns an airport, and provides shuttle air service to Washington, D.C.
Founded in 1804, OU is the oldest institution of higher learning west of the Ohio River.
Ohio University, according to the Washington Monthly rankings published in September 2006, is one of the top 40 national universities in the United States. Washington Monthly considers how much institutions benefit the country by looking at three indicators: how well a school performs as an engine of social mobility, how well it does in fostering scientific and humanistic research, and how well it promotes an ethic of service to the country.
Athens is tucked away in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains about 20 miles from the Ohio River. The small-town atmosphere and the beauty of the nearby Hocking Hills provide an idyllic setting for students to obtain a college education.
