Housing & Utilities

On-Campus Housing
Information on residence halls (dorms and apartments can be obtained by contacting the Residential Housing Office at 060 Chubb Hall or by calling (740) 593-4090. University apartments give priorities to families, and there is usually a waiting list. Undergraduate students are not permitted to live in the university apartments unless they are married. All Freshman and Sophomore students are required to live in the residence halls unless they are married. The Residential Housing Office will waive this requirement for students over 23 years of age.  For more information on housing at Ohio University go to the OU Housing Website or University Apartment Website.

Off-Campus Housing
In order to assist new students in finding off-campus housing, ISFS will have an advisor working in the office prior to orientation. Ask ISFS staff for scheduled times. There will also be a listing of some available off-campus housing posted at the ISFS office. Other sources of housing information are the sections ofthe ATHENS NEWS (a free publication published on Mondays & Thursdays ), and the ATHENS MESSENGER (published Sunday through Friday).  Also check the bulletin boards around campus.  For more information on off-campus housing, visit the Residential Housing Website or University Apartment Website.

Signing a Lease
When signing a lease, read it carefully and make sure you understand your responsibilities and obligations, as well as those of the landlord. Ask a friend to go with you to check the terms of the lease. Carefully inspect your apartment for damage and cleanliness. (An inspection sheet is available at the ISFS office). You will also need to determine who pays for utilities and under whose name the bill will be stated.

Apartment Complexes
Please visit www.ohio.edu/housing/ocl/guide.cfm for information about local apartment rentals.
