Manufacturing Materials and Process Focus
The focus of manufacturing materials and process (MMP) in the Industrial Technology Program is on the advanced theory and application of industrial processes to produce parts and products from common industrial materials. Courses in this area include significant hands-on laboratory time. The MMP focus area gives students opportunities for advanced study beyond the basics included in the technical core courses.
Content includes topics such as metal machining in a high volume production environment, specific techniques for polymer processing, design and use of fluid power for controlling machines and equipment, and design of tooling to produce jigs and fixtures for efficient production.
Two additional technical electives are required for this area and can be selected from courses such as geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, computer numerical control, superabrasive machining, and dimensional analysis, as well as select courses offered by the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering.
