Dr. Dusan N. Sormaz is an Associate Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Ohio University, Athens, USA and Assistant Director for Information Systems at the Institute for Corrosion and Multiphase Technologies at Ohio University.
Dr. Sormaz has organized several conferences and symposia, and edited a special issue of IJPR and conference proceedings. He has published 2 book chapters, over dozen journal papers and about 70 conference papers in his research areas. He serves as peer reviewer for several journals in industrial engineering, CAD/CAM, and manufacturing areas. His work is regularly cited in the research papers related to process planning and manufacturing. He is senior member of IIE, senior member of SME, and senior member of IEEE.
Research Activities
My principal research interests are in process planning, cost modeling and estimation, Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), concurrent engineering, group technology and application of knowledge based systems in engineering. He developed the prototype of intelligent process planning system 3IPP. He has worked in a technology transfer project with Adizes Southeast Europe in Novi Sad. He also worked on FIPER project funded by NIST (ATP) in developing cost modeling tool. He has developed the distributed process plan modeling system IMPlanner and applied its algorithms in projects for Delphi automotive. He has been working on applying AI techniques in few engineering problem areas, such as cost estimation, and oil corrosion prediction. He has been working on project related to cost estimation of components of jet engines for aircrafts and power turbines for General Electric.
